Goodman Community Center

Congratulations to Goodman Community Center, our Q1 grant winner!

The $82,000 grant from 100 Men of Dane County will be used to offer financial assistance to early childhood education participants whose families are unable to pay full or partial tuition. With their recent campus expansion, Goodman Community Center has increased their capacity and will serve an average of 125 unduplicated children each calendar year in their early childhood classrooms. This program costs $7,700 per student attending full time per year, or about $560,000 annually. They receive some public support through the city, state tuition reimbursement, and free meals. Additionally, they collect an average of $75,000 a year from parents who can pay. But this year they will provide an additional $192,000 in early childhood education scholarships.

Recognizing the important role early childhood education plays in a child’s life, the Goodman Community Center's preschool programming is committed to providing a high-quality experience for the entire family. Using play-based approach to learning, teachers will support children as they explore the world around them. Child-initiated play as well as intentionally-designed activities will be provided in a mixed age classroom environment.

Teachers will help children develop social and emotional life skills while establishing meaningful relationships with the child and their family. As nurturing relationships are fostered, the child will continue to develop skills to be successful in five-year old kindergarten.
