Operation Fresh Start (OFS) provides a path forward for disconnected youth in Dane County, ages 16-24, through education, mentoring, and employment training. OFS programs offer youth and young adults opportunities to gain meaningful, supported work experience, while completing their high school diploma or completing industry certifications and continuing on to higher education and/or self-sustaining employment.

OPERATION FRESH START

Operation Fresh Start (OFS) was granted $96,000 to further their remarkable work in providing disconnected youth a path to self-sufficiency in Dane County.

OFS programs are designed to transform lives at a critical time in a young person’s life. In 2019, OFS served over 300 youth. Their main, AmeriCorps-affiliated program, Legacy, offers young people on-the-job training and work experience while earning their high school diploma. Participants build affordable housing or complete extensive conservation projects while also engaging in classroom instruction over a nine-month program of 32-hours a week.

The 100 Men grant will support over 30 17-year-olds in the Legacy Program during the next year. These young people will build an affordable home for a family in need. Early 2020 will be the groundbreaking of a new Sun Prairie home, built by Operation Fresh Start crews. In their 49 years, they have helped over 8,000 Dane County youth on a path to self-sufficiency and built or restored 285 affordable homes.

We're so grateful to have amazing organizations like Operation Fresh Start to help make an impact on the children in our community who need our help the most. Thank you for all you do and congratulations on being the 1st quarter grant winner of 2020!
